What is the simplest way to set up a tv and blu ray system with two external spakers?

JOHN M asked:

I am about to buy a new lcd tv which will be mounted on the wall. I will also buy a blu ray dvd player. For better sound both for TV and dvd I want to buy a couple of external speakers.
Can you plug the speakers into ports at the back of the tv or do I have to run them through an amp?

depends on the tv if it has outputs. My tv did and i use those to go to a surrond sound set. with how cheap surrond sounds are i would rather go that route then try to use my tv as an amp. easier/cheaper to buy a new 39 to 200 dollar system than a tv

You do need an amplifier and speakers or amplified speakers because the audio output from the TV is unamplified.

The simplest way to get good sound is to get a simple stereo receiver and two speakers.

hopefully your TV has an HDMI input.

easiest way: get a receiver with “HDMI pass-through” (ex: Onkyo 606).

    1st HDMI cable: from Blu-ray HDMI-out to Receiver HDMI-in
2nd HDMI cable: from Receiver HDMI-out to TV HDMI-in

then hook speakers up to recevier L/R connections, and you’re done! :)
