Can you connect a blu-ray player to a dvd player to use surround sound system?

Lisa asked:

Hi! A few years ago we bought a surround system that includes a dvd player. I want to buy my husband a blu-ray player for Christmas, but can we hook that up to our old dvd player to still use the surrround sound? I hope this makes sense… :)

Thanks!

Connect optical cable from Blu-ray player to system for surround sound if your system has one.

Only if your old home theater in a box has an optical or coax input for audio. You connect the video portion of the blu ray disc player to the tv via HDMI cable and an optical or coax from the blu ray disc player to your old home theater in a box. Most home theater in a box are not flexible for adding anything to them. Hope this will help you out.

It will work if it has an optical or analog connection for audio in.
