How do you active the remote control to play blu-ray discs on the PlayStation 3 ?

I went to a screen for accessories and I was told to hold the ‘Enter’ and ‘Start’ buttons for at least 5 seconds. I must have held them for over 15 seconds and nothing happened.

I realize that I can play blu-ray discs with a controller, although I bought the remote and it would be a waste to not ever use it. Please help me with this. Thank you in advance.

Is it possible to add a blu ray torrent file on my thumb drive and play it on my PS3?

How can I figure out what blu ray drive is required for me PS3?

I bought a non-working PS3 with the understanding that it only needed the lens cleaned. I bought a blu ray lens cleaning disc, which didn’t solve the problem, so I opened it up, cleaned the lens well, put it all back together, and still nothing. The unit works, it just can’t read any discs. Any ideas?
