High Definition Video: Blu-ray permits a maximum screen resolution of 1920 x 1080 (more than 6 times higher than the current NTSC standard definition format). Result: Your high definition content can be viewed in its native “wide screen” aspect ratio, with full high definition resolution. Blu-ray disc represents a quantum leap forward in picture quality and is the only way to deliver high definition footage on a physical disc.

Enhanced Interactive Features: Blu-ray Disc features two levels of interactivity: HDMV and BDJ.

The HDMV Level incorporates virtually all of the interactive features available on the current DVD format, while adding some enhanced capabilities of its own. These enhancements include translucent “pop up” menus (which can be easily accessed without interrupting the video program) and high quality graphical subtitling. HDMV interactivity greatly improves the consumer viewing experience and sets a new standard for “interactive home video.”

The BD-J Level utilizes the Java programming language and enables truly dynamic interactive features, capable of leveraging both network and internet connectivity. The full potential of the BD-J level will be realized over time, as player hardware standards and broadband connectivity protocols evolve in the coming years. In the meantime, BD-J allows for enhanced interactive gaming features incorporating high definition bonus content.
